PSI's goal is to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to practice professional counseling and/or marriage and family therapy. The M.A. curriculum offers crucial course work for the academic requirements of licensure as a professional counselor (LPC) and/or marriage and family therapist (LMFT). This facet of the curriculum, which is focused on professional counseling, develops a broad understanding of human behavior and personality, psychological change strategies, and standards of professional therapeutic practice.

In addition, students complete coursework in Biblical studies, practical theology, and the integration of the disciplines of applied psychology and practical theology. They also are involved in laboratory experiences, practicum and internship training from the beginning of their educational experience at PSI, resulting in Biblical knowledge and scientific data on which to build a counseling model. The integration component may be taken alone in pursuit of the M.S. in Christian Psychological Studies.

PSI seeks to attract students who have a heartfelt desire to integrate psychological principles and Christian faith. We anticipate graduates of the M.A. program to pursue licensure as a mental health professional and become employed in a church agency or the private sector. M.S. graduates may pursue further study elsewhere or use this training to supplement training received at another institution. PSI alumni live and work throughout the United States, with some in international settings.
